The Natural Path of Your Nature - Sierra Nevada, NV

One fine morning with coffee in hand, you still savor that last sip of your custom brew.  You feel peaceful. Then a fleeting thought stirs up an awareness that you are thinking more and more about your future end of career and your new life. You smile and feel warmer inside…and then you feel a twinge of angst.

These are mixed emotions: joy and apprehension. They swirl around your mind stirred up much like the sweetener you blended into your coffee.

You wonder whether this is a common experience, how successful people deal with it and perhaps when you should begin to resolve this emerging dilemma.

You sense that you must do something.

A Fictional Character that Reflects a Real Person

The Discipline of Discernment and the Quest of Truth

Wisps of Vagueness, Light of Truth That Shines on Thee - Sierra Nevada Range, NV

To Question Diligently is the Foundation of Discovery

A critical necessity for the survival of man is knowledge of the truth and how to make use of it. This was true throughout the march of history: pre-historic times, the Agricultural, Industrial and Information Revolutions.

One such observable truth is the Summer Solstice. We have celebrated it since ancient times as we do today!

For pre-historic man there were relatively few, but critical facts that he needed to know with certainty in order to survive. Among them were when, where and how to find shelter, water and food. The source of that knowledge, those truths, were largely based on his own ability to question. He had to seek his own answers, learn and apply them that he may survive.

It was up to him to seek the facts; to be disciplined in the deliberate and purposeful search of the truth. His experience of repeatedly achieving the results he...

J. P. Cunningham Cabin - Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming

Its Lasting Value Requires Your Clarity and Conviction

Your life’s purpose is an expression of your character. It does not need to be found; it is already within you.

Clarity of your purpose guides your deliberate decisions as to how you will manifest it…throughout your lifetime.

Clear Questions, Fuzzy Answers

I have the privilege of serving individuals from many walks of life. A significant number are highly trained and experienced in their respective fields. It is my observation that each usually believes that they know both their character and purpose…their Who and Why.

Yet, as these topics are discussed more deeply, it becomes evident to them and me that what seemed clear is really somewhat opaque.

The Ambiguous Lens of Introspection

A major personal impediment to clarity that is critical to developing a holistic understanding of oneself is this:

The common misconception that your...

Not so much to somehow brightly, spontaneously illuminate your new path. Rather, to use your skills and wisdom in the service of learning anew. To learn with deliberate purpose about a very unfamiliar, yet promising grand experience.

The end of career. It is a new experience for all of us. For most, it is an exciting time. You will likely have more than one dream…and each will be accompanied by many questions.

To question, to dream. To find answers and bring dreams to life is the essence of your path to a renewed and fulfilling lifestyle.

This is an extraordinary time that...

Enduring Character - El Capitan Monolith, Yosemite National Park

Character, Purpose and Leadership

Great, existential challenges have a remarkable way of evoking different reactions from individuals with diverse personalities. One aspect of this, is that the responses range from cowering fear to towering bravery. The latter is witnessed in men known for their genuine boldness as well as the man who has been perceived as quietly meek.

It is this seemingly outward meekness that is often misunderstood for a quiet, steadfast resolve.

Who Are These Leaders?

Exemplary leaders may be found at a humble home, small and large businesses, hospitals, churches and government bodies. The list is virtually endless.

Some have a long record of leadership service; others seem to arise out of nowhere to meet the challenge they are confronted with. Perhaps you, as I:

  • Have witnessed the behavior of individuals in the face of crisis.
  • Have witnessed the usually, boldly verbose remain uncharacteristically...

How Avoiding the Language of Hurry Promotes Tranquility

Manifest Magnificence - Madison River, Yellowstone N.P.

Words That Convey Unnecessary Haste Are Often Villains of Our Language

Among the various common human desires, tranquility is one that promotes a joyful, healthy life experience. It fosters a fuller, more peaceful life as well as your personal development.

If you pause and feel your state of mind and the rate of your heartbeat, you will likely recognize that the days of your life seem to pass really fast. At that moment, you will probably be more aware how beneficial it is to increase our daily dosage of serenity. I know this to be true.

In the course of time, I have become increasingly aware of the impact that careless language can have on our tranquility. More than that, it is detrimental to the equanimity that is essential to calmly conquer the challenges of everyday life. It is counterproductive to your efforts to perform your tasks with excellence.

On Taming the Use of Your Time

Palma Sola Bay, Gulf of Mexico - Florida

How Living With Tranquility and Equanimity Improves Your Quality of Life

To contemplate the passage of time and how each of us perceives it is a subject of wonder since the beginning of…well, time.

Early humans pondered the coming and going of the sun and moon while keeping warm by a campfire near their cave. In the twenty-first century we ponder in wonder about the same rhythms of life as we mark time on a digital clock.

The rotation of the earth on its axis that creates day and night is the same now as it was in antiquity.

The rotational march of the earth around the sun that creates the seasons and marks the years, is the same now as it was then.

So it is that the march of time was and is the same for all of us.

But there are three things that differentiates us as individuals:

  • How we choose to use the precious time of our lives.
  • How those choices affect our value of how we chose to use our time.
  • How we perceive the speed at which...
